This artical appeared in Cyclocrossworld.com. We had 419 racers in total, served over 400 hot dogs and 150 ice cream sandwiches - What an incredible day! Juniors Swarm the Bike Source On the Cross Race November 13, 2007 Saturday morning began fast and furious for 65 junior cyclocross fanatics at Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Zack Gould (Clif Bar Developmental CX Team) took the holeshot, to be chased by Michael Dessau (Boulder Cycle Sport CX Team), Zane Godby and Dean Haas (Slipstream Developmental Team). The four battled out front for the entire race with Dessau pulling away for the eventual win. The course was fast and smooth, with a couple of nasty twists that all great cross courses need. In addition to the juniors, the Amazing Grains Kiddie Cross drew over 50 pedal mashers under the age of 8. The Kiddies had their own course, with huge foam snakes as barriers. Each entrant in the race brought home a ribbon as a prize as well. The junior event followed the first ever, Bicycle Douglas County 1st Timers/Citizens Race that saw 28 competitors pull on the cross race kit for the first time. The field was made up of racers from their 20s into the 60s, as all pushed it beyond their limits for 30 minutes on the course. An awesome race for Richard McCurdy as he ran away with the victory. Blue skies, and warm weather, forced the International Christian Cycling Club promoters to make quick changes, serving up free hot dogs and ice cream sandwiches instead of a tradition cross menu of chili, soup and hot chocolate. The entire day brought excitement with Colin McKernan (Organic Athlete) edging out mountain bike legend Nat Ross (Subaru/Gary Fisher) in the Spot Brand's Single Speed Race. A new Spot Brand single speed with their new carbon belt drive system was even out on the course. Other Bike Source On the Cross Champions were: Michael Mathers (Ridley Factory Team) in the Category 3 Men, Jody Proctor in the Category 4 Men, Dennis Farrell (Eschelon Elite/Denver Spoke) in the Masters 35+, Scott Jaime in the 35+4 Category, Bruce Whitesel in the Masters 45+ Category, Lee Waldman in the 55+ Category, and Diedre Garvey (Louisville Cyclery) in the Masters Women Category. Lara Kroepsch (Team Lipton) took the honors in the Open Womens Field, and in one of the most exciting races of the day, Colby Pearce (Boulder Cycle Sport CX Team) held on the the lead with a sprint to the line against Matt Pacocha (Velo News) to take the title in the Open Men's category.
