In the Deer Park, WA area until October. First time in the area and 20 miles into a solo ride yesterday, another cyclist (Scott) stops and says he noticed my IC3 jersey and was also an IC3 member! WOW, in the 3 weeks I have been in the area, seeing only 3 other cyclist, it was a blessing to meet him! Completed another 10 miles or so together, chatting along the way. Praying a planning another ride together soon!

Any other IC3 members in the Deer Park/Spokane area?

I went with straight HEED. Lots of success with Perpetuem on long rides, one bad experience with Perpetuem on a long race, decided to play it safe and went with HEED and Hammer gel. Also had Cliff Shots on the way down Columbine.

Back wheel started making horrible grinding noises at 20 miles. Swapped it at Twin Lakes (40 miles), spare wheel had a heavy all-mountain tire with aggressive tread and high rolling resistance.

But the real downfall to my sub-9 plan was leg cramps. I mixed Endurolyte powder into my HEED and meant to take Endurolyte capsules. Forgot the capsules. Legs started cramping but I couldn't drink more because my stomach was sloshing. I really needed more electrolytes and didn't have a source other than the mix in my Camelback.

My legs cramped many times and the pain was horrible. They seized up completely in excruciating pain several times and I had to stop. The pain was the same as when I broke my femur.

I was on track for a sub-9 until 80 miles into the race (Powerline) and my legs seized up 3 or 4 times from there to the end.

Lesson learned: always take anti-cramping electrolyte pills or capsules on huge efforts like Leadville!

Bottom line - I'm very disappointed to not sub-9 because I definitely had it in me. I trained all year and had the power and endurance. On the other hand, I'm very happy not to have "DNF" next to my name on the results. I had a spare wheel and gutted it out through the cramps. I lost 20 minutes in the last 20 miles and finished 9:16. So close! I could have sub-9ed in spite of the back wheel.

Oh well. A lot of things have to go right for a sub-9 at Leadville. If any of them go really wrong, you're late or done.

It was a crazy race with Tour de France-like crowds at the start, Pipeline, Twin Lakes, and the finish. And I left it all on the course, gave it everything, was totally done at the end.

What a race!

God Bless your friends for showing such generosity Kevin. God Bless you and your family too. God Bless the people of Texas and the people in the NT IC3 Club.

I am very happy and in great Joy at the moment but ,at the same time I am sad that I cannot be there to share with you Guys, to go to your church and give thanks, to personally thank your friends who without knowing my friends are willing to help them out, to give thanks to all your family and the rest of the NT IC3. But, as you well know Kevin, I take care of my 89 y/o mother and believe me it is not easy to do everything I am doing and at the same time taking care of her.

The only thing that keep me helping others and doing everything I do is an strength that I don't know from where it come from though there are days that are very hard for me specially with my mother who is having problems with her memory and that is killing me. I know what is gonna happen with her because I am a Doctor but, I cannot block my feelings sometimes and sometimes I even get upset. However, I ask our dear Lord to forgive me and help me keep on going am make me a better person one day at the time.

My very personal and from the heart THANKS to you and to that family friends of yours and the rest of the people that is making everything possible but specially to Number One: Our Dear and Generous and Kind " GOD ".

YbiC
